ABSTRACT
Primary school History education emphasizes understanding the culture and heritage of Malaysian society. Students are introduced to various houses of worship to help them appreciate the identity of a multiracial community. To support this aim, an innovative kit known as Kit Kembara Rumah Ibadat was developed specifically for Year 6 students, aligned with Learning Standard 11.2.4. This kit adopts an interactive, child-friendly, and culturally sensitive approach aimed at fostering respect and appreciation for the nation’s heritage. This study aims to develop a teaching kit that helps students gain an in-depth understanding of different types of houses of worship and the key customs practiced by followers of major religions in Malaysia. The kit includes interactive roller-based notes and two levels of exercises designed to suit students’ cognitive abilities. The first activity involves matching cultural key tags to the correct religion, aided by notes and QR codes linking to explanatory audio. The second activity tests students’ thinking skills by asking them to spot the incorrect element in a question card and then write down the correct answer. Initial findings indicate that the Kit Kembara Rumah Ibadat effectively captures students’ interest through the use of visual, tactile, and auditory elements. Students with diverse abilities and learning styles can engage more actively and meaningfully during lessons. There is also a significant improvement in their ability to identify places of worship and understand religious customs and practices with accuracy and respect. This innovation holds strong potential as a multi-sensory teaching aid to enhance students’ understanding while promoting unity among them.
