To foster meaningful and higher-order learning, this innovation integrates Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) into the Data Communication and Networks course through a customized ChatGPT-based tool, the DCN Peer Tutor Bot, combined with an adapted Pair–Think–Share strategy. In this approach, Pair – students first pair with the bot for idea generation and brainstorming; Think – they then collaborate with a peer to analyse and refine their understanding; Share – finally, they present and discuss their insights with the whole class. This structured learning flow promotes active engagement, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving, enabling students to construct deeper conceptual understanding while enhancing communication skills. The implementation resulted in a 23% improvement in learning outcomes and has been successfully adopted in Indonesia and the Philippines through targeted training sessions, demonstrating its scalability and potential for broader application in engineering education.
