AMILEDU4U
Zakat Distribution Management for Students
Zakat is an essential financial tool in Islam, intending to aid underprivileged groups and this includes students in higher education institutions which may fall under the asnaf categories such as poor (fakir) and the needy (miskin). However, the system of zakat distribution is often not tailored specifically for the community of students, resulting in a lack of accessibility, inefficiency, and delays in disbursement. In addition, many eligible students remain unidentified and unaided due to the absence of a structured and student-centered zakat management system. Therefore, this project and innovation proposes the development of ‘AmilEdu4U, a zakat distribution system for students, aiming at streamlining the identification, application, and distribution process of zakat distribution within educational institutions.
The system is designed and developed based on Islamic principle of zakat eligibility which integrates socio-economic and academic data such as family income, academic performance, and enrolment status. The main features of this system includes an online application portal, automatic eligibility verification, and administrative tools. The system also facilitates an efficient filtering of qualified applicants according to the eight recognized criteria of asnaf, lessening human error and administrative burden.
The digitalization of the zakat distribution process ensures transparency, accuracy, and timely assistance for those in genuine need. It empowers zakat committees and institutional administrators to make informed decisions, track fund usage, and guarantee accountability. Last but not least, the system is expected to promote social equity among students’ community, reduce the risks of dropout due to financial hardship, and strengthen the role of zakat as a tool for poverty alleviation within the community.
This innovation demonstrates the potential of information systems and technology in supporting Islamic social finance in addition to enhancing student welfare through a more structured, reliable, and technology-driven zakat distribution framework.
