This study aimed to develop and evaluate the construct validity of a Daily Spending Pattern Questionnaire among B40 households in urban areas of Klang Valley, Malaysia. The rising cost of living exerts financial pressure on B40 groups, influencing their daily spending behaviours. A total of 200 B40 households were selected using purposive sampling. The instrument consisted of 10 items measured using a 4-point Likert scale, which is widely used to avoid neutral responses and encourage decisive choices (Joshi et al., 2015). Data were analysed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) with Principal Component Analysis. Results showed KMO = .931 and Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity was significant (p < .001), indicating data suitability for factor analysis. One single factor was extracted, explaining 57.9% of the variance, with factor loadings ranging from .687 to .831, which are considered strong (Hair et al., 2014; Pallant, 2020). These findings indicate that the instrument is valid, reliable, and unidimensional, suitable for research assessing daily spending patterns of B40 households.
