Abstract for Project

ABSTRACT

This innovation project introduces the Cool Cap, an innovative solution specially designed to enhance the comfort and safety of construction workers exposed to extreme heat. The main issue identified is that standard safety helmets trap heat and lack cooling features, leading to fatigue and increased risk of accidents among workers. The Cool Cap is a safety helmet equipped with a mini fan powered entirely by solar energy through a small solar panel installed on the outside of the helmet. This design not only retains its physical protection function but also significantly improves user comfort in the workplace. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, as it helps reduce heat stress and related health risks for workers.

The main objective of this project is to develop an efficient and practical cooling system powered by renewable energy. The study involved prototype development, selection of heat-resistant and lightweight materials, and field observations. The results showed a noticeable drop in temperature inside the helmet when the fan is operating, especially during peak heat. Observations also indicated improved comfort and productivity while working, which contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by promoting a more conducive and safe work environment. Moreover, the use of solar energy, which is eco-friendly and cost-efficient, supports SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 13: Climate Action, as it eliminates the need for external charging and reduces reliance on conventional electricity.

As a proposed improvement, the project suggests the use of lighter and more efficient solar panels, quieter high-powered fans, and additional functions such as adjustable speed. Through this technology-driven approach, Cool Cap also contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by introducing an innovative safety equipment enhancement within the construction sector. The Cool Cap holds strong potential for commercialization and widespread adoption as a practical and sustainable safety solution.
