ABSTRACT

This innovation aims to improve students’ understanding and practical skills in computerised accounting by integrating DataCamp Excel modules into the teaching and learning process. Many accounting students have limited experience with spreadsheet tools beyond basic functions. To address this gap, the proposed approach incorporates guided, interactive learning activities using Excel on the DataCamp platform.

The modules are designed to help students work through real accounting tasks such as preparing journal entries, reconciling data, analyzing financial reports with pivot tables, and building simple dashboards. These exercises allow students to learn at their own pace while receiving immediate feedback. The content is aligned with course learning outcomes and supports the development of digital and analytical skills relevant to the accounting field.

This approach has been implemented in selected accounting courses, and student progress is monitored through their activity on the platform. Feedback collected from students shows that they find the modules engaging, easy to follow, and helpful in applying accounting concepts in a more practical way.

The use of DataCamp also encourages independent learning and supports blended and online learning environments. It can be adapted to other courses and supports initiatives like micro-credentials and digital skills development in higher education. By using this method, the teaching of computerised accounting becomes more hands-on, helping students build the skills needed for the modern workplace.
