This project presents the development and pilot evaluation of ScorEdge, an AI-assisted web-based platform designed to support lecturers in assessing essay-type assignments. Developed using the ADDIE instructional model, the project addresses key issues in essay assessment, namely the time-consuming process of manual grading, inconsistencies in scoring, and delays in providing feedback. ScorEdge integrates GPT-based language models with rubric-driven evaluation logic and incorporates a human override feature, ensuring that the platform complements rather than replaces the lecturer’s role. The pilot phase provides initial insights into its potential to enhance efficiency, consistency, and timeliness in academic assessment.
